Marine Wing Support Squadron 274 (MWSS-274)
Marine Wing Support Squadron 274 (MWSS-274) was activated on 2 June 1986 at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina, as part of the reorganization of Aviation Ground Support within Marine Aircraft Wings. The establishment of MWSS-274 entailed the consolidation of personnel and equipment of Marine Air Base 32 (MABS-32), Wing Engineer Squadron 27 (WES-27) and Wing Transportation Squadron 27 (WTS-27) upon their deactivation on 2 June 1986. MWSS-274 has participated in and provided support for numerous exercises, including Alpine Warrior 92, Roving Sands 98, and Strong Resolve 99. MWSS-274 has participated in several Carolina Combat exercises, Combined Arms exercises, Joint overseas exercises and Weapons and Tactics Instructor Courses. In August of 1990, MWSS-274 deployed to Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, returning to Cherry Point in April 1991. MWSS-274 provided Aviation Ground Support to 2nd MAW in the form of crash/fire/rescue services, aircraft recovery, security, weather, communications, fuels, medical, motor transport, utilities, engineering, food service and explosive ordnance disposal. Throughout its existence, MWSS 274 has continued to provide exemplary worldwide aviation ground support.
